Incendiary (15) 99min •• Very ordinary adaptation of Chris Cleave’s novel (released two days before the 2005 London bombings) about the effects of a suicide terrorist attack on a London football stadium on one woman’s life. Michelle Williams turns in her best performance to date as the young mother in question and Ewan McGregor plays the journalist who becomes her crutch. Writer/director Sharon Bridget Jones’ Diary MacGuire marshals proceedings with all the manipulative hysteria of David Blunkett. Those looking for naturalistic polemicism of Kenny Gleenan, Ken Loach or Alan Clarke on this important subject will need to look elsewhere. A waste of talent. Selected release from Fri 24 Oct.
High School Musical 3: Senior Year (U) 111min •• In an effort to draw even more money out of their besotted young fans, Disney’s High School Musical phenomenon leaps from pay per view and DVD onto the big screen. This time high school seniors Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) prepare for separation before they head off to different colleges by staging an elaborate spring musical with the rest of the Wildcats. Every bit as nauseating as it sounds (unless you are a child under its shamanistic powers), HSM 3 does, however, take advantage of the big screen format with some impressive ensemble music and dance numbers. General release from Wed 22 Oct.
