Undercover cops Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) swap high school for college in order to thwart another drugs ring. Hilarious sequel which manages to surpass the crowd-pleasing original by embracing its sequel-ness and going one better, with inspired gags, pumped-up action and scene-stealing support from Ice Cube as the duo's perpetually angry boss.

Ten years after the events of 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, simian leader Caesar (Serkis) must work with human leader Malcolm (Clarke) to forge an alliance between apes and men. Hercules

  • Directed by: Brett Ratner
  • Cast: Dwayne Johnson, John Hurt, Ian McShane

Hercules (Johnson) is used to relying on mercenaries, trickery and suggestion to enhance his reputation, but when's called to defend Thrace from a warlord and his supernatural army, he's put to a proper test. Ratner keeps things light, with knowing humour papering over the lack of emotional depth. Daft but watchable.

In this madcap remake of the 2009 movie, uptight psychiatrist Shaina (Fernandez) reminisces about her romance with bad boy thief and adrenaline junkie Devi (Khan). Fernandez is a fierce dancer, Khan not so much, faring better in comedy and action scenes. Droll, bewildering and outrageous.

  • Cast: Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford

Engagingly blunt sequel to 2013's low-budget home invasion sensation The Purge: here, LA cop Sergeant (Grillo) finds himself defending four innocent people from the annual night of state-sanctioned, city-wide lawlessness. With striking performances from Grillo and Ejogo, it's patchy but proficient, and an intelligent expansion of the franchise.

Blu (Eisenberg) and Jewel (Hathaway) travel to the Amazon to discover Jewel's family, but old adversary Nigel (Clement) is keen on revenge. Amiable sequel to the macaw-themed 2010 original; despite dubious racial stereotyping in the supporting cast, there's enough colour and incident to make for passable family entertainment.
