Lars Lindstrom (Gosling) is a quiet and sullen young man. His brother Gus (Schneider) and Gus' pregnant wife Karin (Mortimer) try to integrate him into the community with no success until Lars gets an unusual new girlfriend. By turns tender, thoughtful and open hearted, Lars and the Real Girl manages to be both ridiculous and joyous.
