Loosely based on the life of Martin McGartland, the film follows Northern Irish Catholic wheeler-dealer Martin (Sturgess) turns undercover informer at the height of The Troubles in 1980s west Belfast: it's cloak and dagger time Irish style. Canadian screenwriter and director Skogland's adaptation is breezily paced and intriguingly plotted yet ultimately fails to convince.
