The unsentimental and patiently rendered story of a devout young washerwoman, exceptionally played by Moreau, who spends her evenings painting with foraged materials. In 1914 she is 'discovered' by an art dealer (Tukur), who feels an affinity with the misunderstood outcast, and returns later, determined to make her a star.
