A thrilling cinematic work crafted with nuance and skill, Crawl is an accomplished homage to film noir filled with white-knuckle suspense. In an unknown rural town, seedy bar owner Slim Walding (Paul Holmes) hires a mysterious Croatian hitman to murder a local garage owner after a shady business deal goes wrong, but the plan backfires and innocent waitress Marilyn Burns (Georgina Haig) is taken hostage. Director Paul China makes this slow-burning study in terror particularly effective through atmospheric lighting, fluid camerawork and by employing long, tense periods of silence. This is a dark and claustrophobic flick that builds to a terrifying climax. UK premiere. Part of Glasgow Film Festival 2012: FrightFest.
