Recently divorced writer Mavis (Theron) returns to her tiny hometown to win back former sweetheart Buddy (Wilson), except he's a happily married father. A standard rom-com setup becomes something much less reassuring: Theron gives a perfectly judged performance as the conceited, searingly tactless Mavis, and Cody's crackling dialogue confirms Reitman's instinct for original storytelling.
