Disney Pixar's highly anticipated sequel will be highlight of festival's opening weekend
Hard to believe, but it's been 14 years since the beloved original hit the big screen. Incredibles 2, which marks the animation studio's 20th feature release, is arguably Pixar's biggest release since Toy Story 3 in 2010 and see the return of Brad Bird (Incredibles, Ratatouille) to the director's chair.
The Incredibles 2 Family Gala will take place Sunday 24 June at 2pm at the Festival Theatre, with tickets on sale through the EIFF website. In additional, the Filmhouse is hosting a school screening of the film for local students on Monday 25 June.
In previous years, the EIFF has presented gala screenings of WALL-E, Toy Story 3, Inside Out, Brave, and last year's release Cars 3.
Mark Adams, EIFF's Artistic Director commented: 'The Incredibles won hearts the world over with its fun and exciting adventures and it's an honour to be continuing our long-standing relationship with Disney and Pixar Animation Studios to deliver this special, superpowered sequel to our younger audiences and their families.'
Incredibles 2 sees the return of voice talents Holly Hunter, Craig T Nelson, Samuel L Jackson and introduces Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks. The film goes on UK-wide release 13 July.
The 72nd edition of Edinburgh International Film Festival runs 20 Jun–1 Jul.
