Edinburgh Interntional Film Festival introduces new filmmaking competition

Festival teams up with Johnnie Walker with opportunity to be showcased at the 73rd EIFF in June

Edinburgh International Film Festival has announced a new filmmaking competition, Walk With Us, aimed at Scotland-based filmmakers.

Not only is the name of the project a reference to sponsor Johnnie Walker, it is also the theme filmmakers are challenged to use as the basis of their films, which must be no more than 60 seconds in length.

EIFF is encouraging entrants to be creative, interpreting what the theme means to them and what format their films take, whether fiction or documentary, live action or animation, with pro gear or camera phones (hey, if it's good enough for Steven Soderbergh...!).

The best entries will be screened at the 2019 festival in June, with the compiled anthology expected to be between 15-20 films.

Those filmmakers who make the festival will have the chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the Four Corners distilleries: Cardhu in Speyside, Caol Ila on Islay, Clynelish in the Highlands and Glenkinchie in East Lothian, the four biggest single malts that go into Johnnie Walker.

Holly Daniel, EIFF Head of Industry & Talent Development said: 'EIFF champions all levels of filmmaking talent and we are delighted to be able to open up this opportunity to both new and existing filmmakers from across Scotland. We are excited to be working on this shared vision with Johnnie Walker and supporting this showcase of Scotland's creative voices.'
