Somehow I first saw The Survivor on TV round my gran’s house when I was about seven-years-old, and it terrified me to my core. I don’t think I even made the end of the film. Now, this 1981 adaptation of James Herbert’s book is getting a re-release, telling the story of a massive plane crash killing everyone onboard apart from sole survivor Robert Powell. However, the dead can’t rest until the culprits of this disaster are brought to justice and their angry souls strike out at the inhabitants of a local village.
It could never be as scary as when I was a nipper but it’s still a pretty effective Brit-chiller (even though it was filmed in Australia) with a few creepy moments and a nice turn from Jenny Agutter as the local psychic.
