Angels and Demons
Ron Howard’s sequel to The Da Vinci Code. Yeah we know this is the biggest release of the fortnight, and yes it is a great improvement on its wretched 2006 precursor, with more action and a clearer plot, but it’s still full of cack portentous theological babble, alarmist politics and terrible acting (Ewan McGregor as Camerlengo McKenna is particularly gormless). Still, if it performs anything like the execrable first film at the box office it certainly doesn’t need our endorsement. There really is no accounting for taste when it comes to summer blockbusters.
General release from Thu 14 May.
