Tax break bid to boost Scottish film
- 27 July 2007
The Scottish Executive is looking at possible tax breaks to boost the film industry north of the border. The move would see the Executive approach the UK Treasury for permission to introduce a system which will offer improved rates for production companies on location in Scotland. X-Men star Brian Cox is among industry players campaigning behind the scenes for a better deal. Writing to First Minister Alex Salmond, the Dundonian actor pushed the message: “In order to create a viable film industry, we have to find way of doing deals and giving people tax breaks in order to invest in film.” Efforts would see Scotland follow in the successful footsteps of Ireland and the Isle of Man, with the latter reaping the benefits of more than 60 large-scale film and TV productions over the last decade.
