Watchmen finally finds a cast
- 27 July 2007
It’s been bubbling under for what seems like an eon, but a big screen version of the Watchmen might just be on the horizon. There’s finally a cast in place for the Zack Snyder movie which will be filmed in the de rigueur 300 style, all rendered backdrops and sepia tones. The cast is less than stellar, but it’s a step in the right direction for the adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ seminal graphic novel set in a world where superheroes have been outlawed. Jackie Earle Hayley and Patrick Wilson from Little Children are slated to play Rorschach and Nite-Owl respectively. Billy Crudup will play the disturbingly blue and naked Dr Manhattan while Malin Akerman is down to appear as the superheroine the Silk Spectre. Then you’ve got Matchpoint’s Matthew Goode as Ozymandias and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as supervillian The Comedian. Reaction has been mixed so far, but it is the ‘Citizen Kane of Comic Books’ so someone was always going to squeak.
