Plucking fruits from the culturla bush

The hottest hotseat is showbusiness keeps on hotting up with fervent rumours about the replacement for Des Lynam in the reclining Countdown chair. Carol Vorderman is still refusing to be considered a candidate while Stephen Fry is the latest name to get chucked into the ring. . . And word has it that the Beeb might be looking for a new Doctor Who after David Tennant does his second full stint next spring . . . Paddy Considine may not be in the running to be the new Timelord or the next word guru but he has signed up to join the cast of The Bourne Ultimatum. Our humble assassin in the shape of Matt Damon will still be trying to piece together his former life while Considine is to play a journalist on the hunt of a former CIA director . . . My Chemical Romance have announced details of a UK tour which takes in Glasgow SECC next March. Better bone up on their new longplayer The Black Parade then . . . You could have placed a sizeable bet on the autobiography of snooker’s living (just) legend Alex Higgins having a certain word in its title. And you’d have done rather well out of it. From the Eye of the Hurricane is due out next spring . . . Joseph Fiennes has just signed up to play composer Antonio Vivaldi in a forthcoming biopic which also stars Malcolm McDowell and Jacqueline Bisset . . . The follow-up to 2004’s Street Disciple will see Nas being joined by a galaxy of rap stars. December’s Hip Hop is Dead: The N’ is set to feature Kanye West, Dr Dre and The Game.
