Andrew Bujalski’s excellent follow up to his highly acclaimed Funny Ha Ha (2002), helped break the whole concept of ‘mumblecore’ – a movement of low-fi, stilted North American comedy films – in this country when it was released a few months ago. If you missed the film’s very limited release do not miss this chance to catch it on DVD.
Detailing the painful, mismatched friendships of a bunch of social inadequates in Brooklyn, this is like Woody Allen on diazepam. If only more low budget filmmakers would make films of this range, wit and intelligence the world would be a much better place. Extras include short film People’s House and a commentary by the parents of the cast and crew. Recommended.
