Spike Lee launches festival for budding film talent
- 5 September 2007
Spike Lee will join the judging panel of a new online film festival, which will help up-and-coming directors showcase their work.
The Babelgum online film festival is open to films shorter than 45 minutes long, and will include documentaries, animation and social/environmental themed subjects.
Lee commented that location is no longer important - not all talent has to come from New York or LA.
“I used to be a struggling independent filmmaker myself and so I understand how important a forum like this one is,” he said.
“With opportunities like this one available these days, a good filmmaker who doesn’t get his films seen has only himself to blame.”
The online festival will be open for submissions between September 15 and February 15.
The winners, who stand to gain £13,500, will be announced next April.
