Lifetime achievement award for Burton in Venice
Director Tim Burton was presented the Golden Lion lifetime achievement award at the Venice Film Festival last night.
Burton said he was ‘honoured’ to accept the award at the red carpet event.
It was presented by Johnny Depp, who has starred in some of Burton’s most critically acclaimed films, including Sleepy Hollow and Edward Scissorhands.
The director’s 1993 animation A Nightmare Before Christmas was shown after the prize ceremony.
Burton said of the award: “Hopefully it just inspires me to keep going.”
He added that it was better than an Oscar: “You grow up in Hollywood and that whole scenario and what you feel here is that there is just passion about movies. So that’s what makes it special to me – it’s not about business, it’s not about finance, it’s about just the love of movies.”
