Welsh wins funding boost to step behind the camera
Irvine Welsh is to make his directorial debut with a £400,000 cash boost from film agency Scottish Screen.
The film, The Man Who Walks, is based on a book by Scottish writer Alan Warner about a boy who attempts to track down the man who has killed his budgies.
Ewan Bremner, who featured in the film version of Welsh’s book Trainspotting, has joined the cast, with speculation that comedian Billy Connolly will also make an appearance.
Mark Cousins and Catherine Aitken will produce the film, which should start shooting in late March.
Cousins said of the Scottish Screen funding: “If you want to get international money, all the international funders look for a vote of confidence on your home patch – and this is a great vote of confidence.”
