Soylent Green

Edinburgh International Film Festival to screen six of the American director's films, including Soylent Green

The Edinburgh International Film Festival has started releasing the first few snippets of information about its 2013 programme. As well as featuring the world premiere of Karen Gillan romcom Not Another Happy Ending as its closing film (read what Gillan says about it in our interview), the festival will also be presenting a retrospective on American director Richard Fleischer.

Fleischer is the man behind some of the most enduring sci-fi and fantasy films to come out of Hollywood - his adaptations of the novels Make Room! Make Room! (as Soylent Green) and Jules Verne's Fantastic Voyage and 20 000 Leagues Under the Sea remain enduring genre staples (even if some of his later works, like Conan the Destroyer and Red Sonja, are perhaps less highly regarded). He was also a dab hand at the horror/thriller genre, as seen in the true life adaptations 10 Rillington Place and The Boston Strangler.

Below, we gather together the six Fleischer films screening at this year's EIFF.
