The family film will screen at the festival three weeks before release in the rest of the UK
Edinburgh International Film Festival audiences will be among the first in the UK to see Disney Pixar’s latest offering, Monsters University. The Family Gala 3D screening will take place on Sun 23 Jun in the Festival Theatre, with an exclusive schools screening at Cineworld the following day. The announcement continues Pixar's strong relationship with the EIFF, following advance screenings of Toy Story 3, Brave and WALL-E in previous years.
The Edinburgh International Film Festival announced this latest addition to their line-up today, which so far includes American drama Breathe In, starring Guy Pearce, and romcom Not Another Happy Ending which features Scotland’s very own Karen Gillan.
Monsters University, a prequel to 2001's Monsters Inc, follows a young Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) on his quest to become a top scarer. He crosses paths with soon-to-be-sidekick James P. 'Sulley' Sullivan (John Goodman), but their friendship gets off to a rocky start, resulting in the competitive pair getting kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program.
The announcement is just one in a series of exciting events and activities on offer at the festival for young movie buffs, including their latest strand entitled ‘Not Another Teen Movie’. The new initiative enables a group of 15-19-year-old enthusiasts to get involved under the guidance of the festival by choosing films they feel will appeal to younger audiences.
Monsters University open in UK cinema on Fri 12 Jul 2013.
