Lovecraft next up for del Toro

  • 4 October 2007

I would have thought up a dreadful pun for the headline, but Guillermo del Toro deserves some respect from hacks like me.

The man who brought us the fabulous Pan’s Labyrinth has revealed his next project after Hellboy 2: The Golden Army will be an adaptation of H P Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness.

Anyone who’s read any Lovecraft will know the story generally goes something like: “fairly normal situation, something slightly odd happens, use of the word ‘eldritch’, OH DEAR GOD HIDEOUS ANCIENT EVIL”

And that’s exactly what we can expect this time, when an Antarctic expedition stumbles upon a vast mountain range which is home to a ‘hideous ancient evil’.

If nothing else, I have high hopes the movie will finally reveal how one is supposed to pronounce Cthulhu.
