Nicole Kidman stars as Grace Kelly in new trailer for Grace of Monaco

The biopic also stars Tim Roth, Frank Langella and Derek Jacobi, and is directed by Olivier Dahan

Following Naomi Watts' lead role in Diana (on general release from Fri 20 Sep), another royal biopic is winging its way to our screens in the near future – and the new trailer has just been released. Grace of Monaco stars Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly, the Hollywood actress who gave up a life of silver screen stardom to marry Prince Ranier III of Monaco (played here by Tim Roth). The film focuses on Kelly's relationship with Ranier during his dispute with Charles de Gaulle (Andre Penvern), in which the threat of French invasion loomed over Monaco in the early 1960s.

Of course, not much of this is visible in this teaser – we just catch glimpses of Kidman as Kelly, with a rich voiceover that sounds like it might be provided by Frank Langella (who plays Father Francis Tucker, Ranier's religious confidante). The strong supporting cast also includes Paz Vega, Derek Jacobi and Parker Posey, while director Olivier Dahan is once again displaying his knack for historical female biopics – he was also responsible for 2007 Edith Piaf movie La Vie en Rose, starring Marion Cotillard.

Grace of Monaco is due for release on Fri 29 Nov.

The tale of the transformation of Hollywood star Grace Kelly (Kidman) into a princess of Monaco, and her ensuing clashes with Hitchcock (Griffiths) and de Gaulle (Penvern). Possibly thanks to executive meddling during the edit, it's a confused and flyweight piece with little emotional depth.
