Earth (U) 90min ••• Feature-length version of the BBC Planet Earth documentary series from the team who brought you 2003’s Deep Blue. Cineworld Renfrew Street, Glasgow from Fri 30 Nov.
All About Eve (U) 138min •••• Digital re-release of Joseph L Mankiewicz’ wonderful 1950 theatre world melodrama starring Bette Davis at her bitchiest and best. Filmhouse, Edinburgh, Fri 30–Thu 6 Dec.
Hitman (15) 92min •• Big screen version of popular third person action game about a genetically bred assassin, starring Timothy Olyphant and Dougray Scott. General release from Fri 30 Nov.
This Christmas (12A) 118min ••• (pictured) Family Christmas ‘dramedy’ featuring an all black cast (including Delroy Lindo, Idris Alba, Mekhi Phifer and Columbus Short) that’s actually better than you’d think. Definitely worth a look. General release from Fri 30 Nov.
The Nines (15) 99min ••• Complex and thought provoking psychodrama made up of three short Hollywood film business set films all starring the same actors (Ryan Reynolds, Hope Davis, Melissa McCarthy). Tricksy, clever and oddly benign (some would say 'Canadian') this is smart sub Donnie Darko style stuff from screenwriter John August (Go, Big Fish, Corpse Bride) whose directorial debut this is. Cineworld Renfrew Street, Glasgow; Cineworld Fountainpark, Edinburgh from Fri 30 Nov.
I Don’t Want To Sleep Alone (15) 115min •••• Tsai Ming-liang may eschew his usual Taipei for Kuala Lumpur but this is business as usual, with plenty of water imagery, hushed loneliness and furtive sex as a young man recovers from a bad beating while another deteriorates. Maybe not the equal of Ming-liang’s best but this is still wonderfully sustained cinema with a stunning closing shot. Filmhouse, Edinburgh, Fri 30–Thu 6 Dec.
KM 31 (15) 103min ••• Creepy Mexican horror movie in which a young woman attempts to find out what happened to her twin sister who was found in a coma after a mysterious accident on a lonely highway. Selected release from Fri 7 Dec.
