The Raid 2

Gareth Evans and Iko Uwais re-team for another high energy action blow-out

The new trailer for Indonesian martial arts sequel The Raid 2 has landed, and it is a doozy. The film picks up once again with supercop Rama (Iko Uwais), who's now going undercover to take on the entire criminal underworld (vastly expanding on the original's claustrophobic, tower block-set action). The new footage, together with the teaser aired back in November, confirms that all may not be going to plan, as Rama spends at least a little time behind bars.

Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans, who we interviewed when he brought The Raid to the Glasgow Film Festival, is once again sat in the director's seat, and early word from the film's premiere at the Sundance Film Festival is that he's pulled off another all-out action extravaganza, with blades, baseball bats and – as evidenced by the pic above – hammers complementing the guns, fists and feet arsenal of the first movie.

The Raid 2 is due for Stateside release on Fri 28 Mar – keep your eyes peeled for UK dates.

In Evans' sequel to his 2011 original, rookie cop Rama (Uwais) goes undercover to infiltrate an organised crime ring. Despite astonishing action set-pieces, the story is over-complicated and while fans of the first film will be pleased, casual viewers will be exhausted by the end of 150 minutes.
