Ghostbusters 3 cast announced
Who you gonna call? Rumours of an all-female Ghostbusters cast confirmed
Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are all confirmed to star in the hotly-anticipated third Ghostbusters film
After years of speculation, a new Ghostbusters film is officially in the works. Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig confirmed recent rumours of an all-female cast of 'busters starring Bridesmaids co-stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, alongside fellow Saturday Night Live alumni Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.
A mooted third Ghostbusters had been a persistent rumour since the second instalment released in 1989, with a script supervised by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, although Bill Murray's reluctance to again don his proton pack seemed to stall the project. Shortly after the death of Ramis early last year Ivan Reitman, director of the first two films, officially quit the project, opening up the way for reboot.
New Ghostbusters star McCarthy has seen her stock go through the roof in recent years, with notable roles in The Heat and St Vincent (alongside original Ghostbuster Murray), while Wiig has carved out a formidable career since breakout hit Knocked Up.
It's unclear exactly how the third film will relate to its two prequels. Feig tweeted a release date of 22 July 2016, alongside the numberless hashtag #Ghostbusters.
