Scottish Students on Screen

Hundreds of film and students from all over Scotland will descend on the CCA in Glasgow for the Scottish Students on Screen day of events, taking place on Friday 14 March 2008.

The exciting programme includes a masterclass with Hollywood producer Barry Mendel, whose credits include Munich, The Royal Tenenbaums and The Sixth Sense.

Other SSOS 2008 highlights will include Pitch!, a live pitching competition during which one student can win a £1000 commission and web broadcast from 4Talent.

There will also be post-production workshops with Apple computers at which participants will learn all about the trade from top industry professionals.

Students will also get a rare chance to sit in on a discussion panel chaired by Stuart Cosgrove (head of nations & regions at Channel 4) with senior representatives from Channel 4, BBC Scotland, STV, the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and Scottish Screen. The audience will discover what they are looking for in new work and have the opportunity to question the panellists.

SSOS is an event that aims to foster stronger links between students, lecturers and those who work in Scotland's moving image industry. All media students, their tutors and members of the industry are invited to attend.

Sponsored by Scottish Screen and managed by BAFTA Scotland, it is a student film festival showcasing the best student films in Scotland, a conference and a major networking opportunity for students. The day is filled with workshops, screenings, talks and a masterclass. SSOS will be held Friday 14 March from 10am-6pm at the CCA.

This year BAFTA Scotland is also inaugurating the new Talent Awards. The awards are for drama and factual work, looking at innovation and excellence in film and programme making by first-time practitioners who are non-students.

In the first ever combined ceremony for SSOS and NTA, Dougie Anderson will present these unique awards on Friday 14 March at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama 100 Renfrew Street, Glasgow.

It will be a real celebration of Scotland's emerging screen industry talent.

Tickets can be purchased through the CCA box office at 0141 352 4900.
