Edinburgh International Film Festival jury and guests announced

This year's Edinburgh International Film Festival jurors will include actors Karen Gillan, Natascha McElhone, Archie Panjabi, Jessica Hynes, Dolly Wells and Denis Lawson, directors Amy Berg and Kyle Patrick Alvarez, LA Times film critic Kenneth Turan, and Jacqueline Lyanga, director of the AFI film festival in Los Angeles.

Over the course of this year's festival the jurors will be on the lookout for potential winners of the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film, Best Performance in a British Feature, Best International Feature, Best Documentary and Best Short Film.

Other awards include the Student Critics Jury Award, the McLaren Award for New British Animation and the EIFF Audience Award.

Festival guests expected to grace the red carpet include Robert Carlysle, director of the opening film The Legend of Barney Thomson, Ashley Jensen, Kevin Guthrie, Brian Pettifer, Martin Compston, James Cosmo and Tom Courtenay, and director Ruth Negga who will close the festival with her film Iona.

Other guests include Ewan McGregor who will introduce his new film Last Days in the Desert, while Rhys Ifans will be back to support a number of films he features in including Len and Company and Under Milk Wood.

Also attending are True Blood and Generation Kill actor Alexander Skarsgård and Oliver Hirschbiegel, director of Downfall, and instigator of hundreds of YouTube parody videos.
