  • 9 June 2008

Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival (SMHAFF) has announced the dates for film submissions.

The multi-arts festival is the largest festival of its kind and takes place throughout Scotland between the 1st and 19th October 2008.

Films can be submitted between Friday 30th May and Friday 29th August. Winning films will screened as part of the festival’s film programme, which includes feature films, documentaries and discussions at cinemas including the Filmhouse, Edinburgh and Grosvenor, Glasgow.

Last year over 50 independent films, including shorts starring Kate Dickie (Red Road) and acclaimed author Irvine Welsh, were submitted with subject matter ranging from young people discussing their emotional dilemmas to an older artist with dementia reflecting on his life and family.

The festival aims to tackle stigma and promote recovery by exploring the relationship between mental health and creativity, celebrating the artistic achievements of people with experience of mental health issues and promoting positive mental health and well being.
