Disney Pixar returns to Edinburgh to debut third instalment of animated adventure trilogy
Few would have predicted that Pixar's seventh film, Cars, would go on to be the prolifically successful animation studio's second trilogy after Toy Story. But here we are, 11 years after it made its debut, ready for another adventure with the Owen Wilson-voiced, legendary race car, Lightning McQueen.
Scotland-based Pixar fans are in for a special treat as the film's UK premiere will take place at Edinburgh International Film Festival, Sun 25 Jun 2017 at the Festival Theatre. The premiere is just the latest in a long line of debuts at EIFF from the studio, following the likes of WALL●E, Toy Story 3, Inside Out, Finding Dory and Brave.
'Pixar Animation Studios is responsible for some of the greatest animated movies of our time,' said EIFF Artistic Director Mark Adams. 'We're thrilled to be continuing our relationship with the studio and providing such a treat for our younger audiences and their families in our 70th Anniversary Year with Cars 3.'
In attendance at the event will be Cars 3 Story Supervisor Scott Morse whose first Pixar film was Ratatouille. Morse will introduce the film and host two School Screenings at Cineworld, Edinburgh on 26 Jun.
New to the voice cast are Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Jackson Storm, a new contender for Lightning's race crown, and Critela Alonzo (The Angry Birds Movie) as Cruz Ramirez, a race technician who helps our hero recover from a career-threatening crash to attempt a comeback at the Florida 500.
The festival sweetened the announcement for eager young fans, with a nation-wide drawing competition for children up to 13 to win tickets for the premiere. All they have to do is draw their ultimate racing car alongside Lightning McQueen to win tickets and the opportunity to take part in an exclusive story workshop with Scott Morse.
