Breathe to open the BFI London Film Festival

Andy Serkis's directorial debut stars Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy

The 61st BFI London Film Festival will open with the European premiere of Breathe, Andy Serkis's directorial debut.

Based on a true story, Breathe is 'a heart-warming and highly emotional celebration of bravery and human possibility, a love story about living every breath as though it's your last.'

Serkis is best known for his work as a performer in the recent Planet of the Apes films, King Kong and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and for his trailblazing work in the field of motion capture.

The director is expected to attend the gala at the Odeon, Leicester Square with producer Jonathan Cavendish and fellow cast and crew including stars Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy. A live cinecast will take place with simultaneous screenings across the UK.

The BFI London Film Festival is on Wed 4–Sun 15 Oct.
