Catch simultaneous screenings of Gregory's Girl and Clueless, followed by an 80s v 90s disco

Over the years, the annual special events programme at the Glasgow Film Festival has become one of the most popular and widely anticipated additions to the festival itself. Last year, ticket holders were treated to three cult classics: Lost Boys at a secret location which turned out to be M&D's Theme park, with vampire fangs provided; Rob Reiner's fairytale adventure, The Princess Bride, featuring live sword fights and treasure hunts at Maryhill Burgh Halls; and Secretary, complete with after party at London's fetish club Torture Garden.

In 2018, GFF will be turning SWG3 into the ultimate 80s v 90s school disco, where audiences have the choice of two of the greatest high school movies of all time – the much-loved Bill Forsyth gem Gregory's Girl (1981) or the coming-of-age Alicia Silverstone comedy Clueless (1995). After the screenings, both sides will reunite for a huge school disco-themed party complete with DJs playing bangers and heartbreakers from across the decades.

Previous years' special events have included audience members being kitted out in orange jumpsuits to watch Con Air in an airplane hangar or getting their skates on for a pre-film roller disco before Dazed and Confused. For the GFF School Disco, you're encouraged to dust off your best prom dresses, plaid outfits and football kits to get into the spirit of the two films.

'The Glasgow Film Festival special events have become huge audience favourites over the years,' says Festival Co-Director Allison Gardner. 'For the 2018 festival we can't wait to let our hair down and relive our youth at the GFF School Disco with two of cinema's most enduring high school romances. We're promising many more opportunities to see your favourite films in unique one-of-a-kind settings as the full programme is released. Watch this space!'

Keep an eye out for the full festival programme announcement on 24 Jan, which will include further details about the special events for 2018.
