  • USA
  • 1h 44min
  • 15
  • Directed by: Jordan Peele
  • Written by: Jordan Peele
  • Cast: Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford

Chris (Kaluuya) heads to upstate New York with his girlfriend Rose (Williams), for a dinner with her supposedly liberal parents (Whitford and Keener), only to find that things are very much other than they seem. Peele’s deep understanding of horror movies tropes combines with his own experiences as a black American, to make a sharp, taut and precisely crafted reflection on racial tensions in America.

Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre
  • 2011
  • UK / US
  • 2h
  • PG
  • Directed by: Cary Joji Fukunaga
  • Cast: Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Judi Dench, Jamie Bell

Dumping the childhood chapters of Charlotte Bronte's novel, Fukunaga does a great job here of making the action and emotions of a well-worn story feel modern without removing it from its original context. Playing to the gothic aspects of the book (and the tastes of the Twilight generation) Wasikowska is otherworldly in the titular role, but a devilish Fassbender steals the show as Mr Rochester.

After expertly handling a tough case, FBI agent Kate Macer (Blunt) is placed with a CIA task force fighting a dirty war against a Mexican drugs cartel. Blunt is superb as the dogged, combative, increasingly troubled Macer; the supporting cast is great, and Villeneuve delivers a tense and stylish action thriller.

Too Friendly Theatre Club presents “The Pact: A Murder Mystery Night”

Like so many things, this past year has been a difficult one for theatres. Up and down the country, ghost lights have illuminated every stage but now, slowly but surely, theatre is back and the show, as they say, must go on.

With this in mind, Southport's Too Friendly Theatre Company are excited to announce that we will be working alongside Southport's Bijou Cinema to bring to life Too Friendly's Bijou Theatre. This is an incredibly exciting development for the Too Friendly Theatre Company who have been delighting audiences in Southport and the surrounding areas for over twenty years.

On Saturday October 30th, we will be performing an original Murder Mystery night. Experts at providing entertaining murder mystery evenings, having performed at numerous venues throughout the North West, this Halloween special will leave your spine-tingling and your teeth-chattering. Someone will be murdered, in the cinema and it will be up to you to work out "whodunnit". But be wary, anyone could be a suspect.

"Murder mystery nights are great fun" explains murder mystery writer Joanne Wasilew, "People have to listen carefully to work out the clues and of course, the Halloween ones are extra special as the cast gets dressed up and encourages the audience too as well! Plus, there are always a few skeletons in the closet!"

Founding member of the Too Friendly Theatre Company, Cliff Gillies said "we are delighted to be welcomed in by the Bijou Cinema and looking forward to creating an arts hub with them. As well as plays and murder mystery evenings, we are looking at opportunities for spoken word and poetry evenings, play writing classes and acting courses. It is an exciting time for our company, The Bijou and the arts in Southport as whole!"

For further information on any of these events or to find out more about the Too Friendly Theatre Company please check out our Facebook Page "Too Friendly Theatre" or our website at toofriendlytheatre.co.uk
