Lullaby

7.30pm

**£10/£6+bkg fee***

Lullaby follows on from Rutherford’s projects KIN and Broth, and looks at family, ageing and the children she never had. Adding the voices of other middle-aged women who never reproduced, this film and live performance explores the personal and public aspects of this emotionally loaded terrain.

Fair Isle musician Inge Thomson has created an intricate soundscape of voices and music based on a series of lullabies (traditional and newly-penned). Lullabies are a space to sing the unsung, a place to say the unsayable. You’re alone. Nobody is listening, and you can express the feelings that are not okay to express in society.

***"Lullaby is an even-handed yet powerful and brave paean to womanhood, feminism and choice - sweet, humorous, but with bite" *** The Tempohouse - Lorna Irvine

Though This Be Madness

730pm

**£10/5 (conc) + bkg fee***

Suitable for ages 14+

“There are many sisters in this story…”

One of them is bouncing on a Pilates ball in The Land of Lounge Room – a recovering mum and love-struck, sleep-deprived teat desperate to soothe her baby – so she can finish her sentence and tell you all this.

Unable to reach her sister Ophelia who wrestles with a cataract on what Shakespeare calls the ‘mind’s eye’, she attempts to ‘stay on the ball’ stitching together a fractured fiction told through poetry and performance.

How can we nurture our collective sanity?

Though This Be Madness wonders what delusions we might all share, questions the so-called sanity we are determined to live by and what we really mean when we call someone crazy.

Part of the Open Mind Festival & Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival
