The Best of Queen

Please note: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Flash will no longer be performing as previously advertised. The Best of Queen will now be performed by acclaimed tribute band, The Bohemians.

Internationally renowned Queen tribute band the Bohemians take you on a high energy rollercoaster ride of a concert, featuring the back catalogue of one of the world’s most popular and iconic rock acts of all time.

Billed as ‘the world’s most exciting Queen tribute’, The Bohemians start proceedings as they mean to continue. Right from the beginning you will be gripped by a bombastic, authentic audiovisual representation of Queen’s iconic Wembley ‘86 performance as the Bohemians burst onto the stage to the strains of One Vision and A Kind of Magic. So many fabulous hits to be covered but they’re all here, from the early piano and harmony heavy wonders of Killer Queen and Don’t Stop Me Now, to the later, catchy pop anthems of the eighties.

The second hour concentrates on the later hits and once again there are so many to choose from. The stunning, Breakthru provides both the introduction and the costume presentation for this part of the set which includes a new feature of the Bohemians stage show, a slick rendering of classics from the late eighties and early nineties era. I Want It All, The Show Must Go On and the haunting, Days Of Our Lives are just some of those featured.

Next up it’s the sights and sounds of the famous Live Aid performance and of course, the awesome Bohemian Rhapsody. Then it’s back to Wembley ‘86 for a suitably rousing finale when the Bohemians will have you on your feet, singing, dancing and clapping along to the likes of We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions. The appropriate climax to a truly memorable live re-enactment of the world’s greatest rock band.

Please note: If you want to dance, book a seat in the stalls. If you want to stay seated, book a seat in the circle where the rake is too steep for us to allow dancing. More details can be found on the Extra Info tab.

Most of our seating require use of steps to access them. For further details please see information on our Access page or speak to one of our box office team.

A Christmas Carol with Simon Callow

Based on Dickens’ own performance adaptation, Simon Callow and director-designer Tom Cairns have created a one-man theatrical extravaganza of festive story-telling that is both heart-warming and deeply moving. A Christmas must see for 8-88 year olds!

Charles Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL is one of the most beloved books in the English language. It has become a classic Christmas tale for generations of grown-ups and children alike.

As the ghosts spirit Scrooge from the present to his past and future, Dickens takes us on a magical journey from the miser’s dank and creaking house to cosy hearths, and from snowy graveyards to joyful festivities. This treasured story offers a celebration of goodness, a plea for justice and the promise of redemption.

Simon Callow, one of the nation’s best loved actors, returns to Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL after huge international success with The Mystery of Charles Dickens (West End and Broadway), national acclaim for Dr Marigold as Pozzo in Beckett's Waiting for Godot opposite Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart and Ronald Pickup; and as the psychiatrist in Chichester Festival Theatre's production of Peter Shaffer's Equus.

Simon published his own biography of Dickens in early 2012. On screen, Simon is best known for his roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love and Amadeus.

Fisherman's Friends

Cornwall’s ‘buoy band’ film stars hit the road With a film based on their incredible true story about to hit cinemas screens, the Fisherman’s Friends are getting ready to hit the road for a string of live dates next spring. The original ‘buoy band’, bound together by lifelong friendship and shared experience, for more than a quarter of a century they have met on the Platt on the harbour in their native Port Isaac to sing the songs of the sea. “Singing to a live audience is why we started the group in the first place,” says extravagantly moustachioed MC and bass man Jon Cleave. “That’s why we’re champing at the bit to get back out on the road.” It’s nearly ten years since Island Records persuaded the Fisherman’s Friends to sign the record deal that saw their album Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends sell Gold as they became the first traditional folk act to land a UK top ten album. The story of how that happened is now the subject of a hit British film starring Daniel Mays, James Purefoy, Tuppence Middleton and Noel Clarke. Directed by Chris Foggin the film opens in UK cinemas on 3 December and is already tipped to be a feel good hit of the year. Cornwall’s best-known musical export, the Fisherman’s Friends have also been the subject of an ITV documentary, released the hit albums One and All (2013), Proper Job (2015) and Sole Mates (2018) and every year play to tens of thousands of fans at home and abroad.

HAODS presents Follies

It’s 1971 and thirty years after their last performance at the famous Weismann Theatre the Follies beauties of years gone by reunite for a show stopping evening of Broadway glitz and glamour, before the Theatre, and former home, is torn down.In this shabby yet sparkling atmosphere of bittersweet nostalgia, the glamourous icons of the roaring 20’s, breath-taking tap dancers of the 30’s and haunting harmony singers of the 40’s laugh, cry, reminisce and boast as they perform the fabulous musical numbers which made them famous, trailed by the ghostly memories of their younger selves. Against this volatile atmosphere of drunken remembrances, a decades-old love quadrangle receives a revival when Follies dancers Sally and Phyllis, and their husbands, Buddy and Ben meet again. Follies is a loving and brilliant pastiche of show music, full of glorious dance routines and big band numbers it delivers fascinating peek into this by-gone era, and a clear-eyed look at the transformation of relationships over time. This award winning musical by Sondheim (and recent hit at the National Theatre) should not be missed!

Set in 1860s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.

With one of the finest scores ever written including; Whistle a Happy Tune, Getting to Know You, and Shall We Dance, and featuring a company of over 50 world-class performers, The King and I is a testament to the lavish heritage of gloriously romantic musical theatre – it is the greatest musical from the golden age of musicals.

Los Endos: Ultimate Genesis

Don’t miss this opportunity to see and hear all the drama and excitement of a Genesis gig from the 70’s and 80’s.

It is easy to visualise murderous goings-on on croquet lawns, unrequited love, and Rael expressing his desires and dreams in a gloomy and dark New York city! Under a sweeping and dramatic light show reminiscent of the era, the intricate and powerful music of Genesis is recreated with amazing accuracy.

Los Endos - Ultimate Genesis are proud to play for the first time at the Capitol Theatre and are bringing along an awesome set of the very best songs from Genesis’ 70’s repertoire. And for 2019 we are basing the show around 'Selling Lamb by the Pound' - with extended suites from the amazing 'Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' album interspersed with material from all the other great albums. Or, chunks of Lamb simmering in a rich gravy of Prog Rock!

The band have been together for over 10 years, painstakingly perfecting the craft of re-creating this amazing music for their growing fan base. We feel privileged to keep this incredible music the way it is supposed to be enjoyed - played live. Come and share the experience and keep Prog Rock Live!

Moya Brennan - The Voice of Clannad

When Bono stated recently, "I think she has one of the greatest voices the human ear has ever experienced", he was heralding what many people know already about The Voice of Clannad, Moya Brennan. She sings like nothing you’ve ever heard before! So it makes sense that her live solo shows – with all the musicality and power of Clannad but with added, heart-warming intimacy – should be such a rich and moving experience. Her effortless vocals and timeless music pay homage not only to her vibrant traditional Irish heritage but also her grasp of contemporary forms.

With Clannad she rose to prominence with a pioneering approach to traditional music which has garnered them 15 million record sales worldwide and a string of awards, including a Grammy in 1998. Their sound has since become the benchmark for the Celtic music genre. Sister Enya joined Clannad for a time before pursuing her own successful career.

Moya’s solo career has continued that success with 8 albums to her credit and more in the pipeline. Her live show has developed into a visual (as well as sound) spectacle with rhythm, atmosphere and vibrant harmony.

Besides her solo work Moya has been much in demand for a number of other projects and is both vociferous and active in her championing of Irish arts and culture abroad. Her career to date includes 25 albums, numerous film scores and she has sung with many great artists, including The Chieftains, Robert Plant, Paul Brady, Shane MacGowan and, of course, Bono. Her voice continues to be in demand in dance music and includes collaborations with Chicane (Saltwater), DJ Roger Shah and Schiller.

In recent years she has been involved in two exciting collaborations; Firstly with three renowned Irish female singers as T with the Maggies (Moya, Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh (Altan) and Maighread & Triona Ni Dhomhnaill (Skara Brae, Bothy Band, Coolfin) and also as Voices & Harps with renowned Irish harpist, Cormac De Barra.

“Ireland is changing rapidly but one thing that remains constant is our love of music and wanting the whole world to hear it. I love being part of that”, says Moya.

Tom Gates Live

I’m Tom Gates and I'm VERY excited to tell you about my FIRST EVER LIVE STAGE SHOW! It stars me (obviously) Amy Porter (who's smart) my best friend Derek and our band DOGZOMBIES. It's SO BRILLIANT that even moany Marcus Meldrew will enjoy this BRAND NEW story that's never been told before! I will be doing everything possible not to get into trouble and they'll be loads of doodling and caramel wafers (yum). I'll be annoying my grumpy sister Delia (time well spent) and the Fossils are bringing some food - but don't let that put you off. It's going to be AMAZING!

From the producers of Horrible Histories and Gangsta Granny comes the world premiere of TOM GATES live on stage for the very first time in an exciting and hilarious adventure that sends Tom’s world spinning! Don’t miss Liz Pichon’s fantastic characters as they come to life in this brand new story for the stage!

  • Cast: Meinhard Neumann, Reinhardt Wetrek, Syuleyman Alilov Letifov

Valeska Grisebach's slow-burning drama about a laconic man (Neumann) who is part of a group of German workers that arrive in a small Bulgarian village to construct a water plant. Tension begins to show between the workers and villagers as the language barrier and the legacy of WWII are keenly felt. A thought-provoking and sparse film of beauty.
