  • Directed by: Jason Wingard
  • Cast: Antonio Aakeel, Jack Carroll, Asim Chaudhry

Omar (Aakeel) is raised by his beloved white granny (Fayerman) along with his half-brother Pete (Carroll), and after her death Omar and Pete hit the road in search of Omar’s dad. A refreshingly absurd comedy with enough emotion in the friendships and relationships to make it charming.

Red Joan

Red Joan
  • 2018
  • UK
  • 1h 50min
  • Directed by: Trevor Nunn
  • Cast: Judy Dench, Sophie Cookson, Tom Hughes

Joan (Cookson when young, Dench later on) arrives at Cambridge in 1938 and is beguiled by radical politics into becoming a Soviet spy. Nunn’s first movie in over 20 years is a plodding, pedestrian affair, and while Dench captures her befuddlement and steely resolve, it fails to find the drama in a story inspired by intriguing real life events.

The Sisters Brothers

The Sisters Brothers
  • 2018
  • US /France
  • 2h 1min
  • Directed by: Jacques Audiard
  • Cast: John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed, Rutger Hauer

In 1850s Oregon, brothers Charlie and Eli Sisters (Phoenix and Reilly) are guns for hire who have conflicting ambitions in life. Although the body count is extensive, Audiard is more concerned with reflection and introspection, and the film resounds with both hopeful optimism and resigned melancholy.
