All Is True (12A)

Kenneth Branagh returns to Shakespeare territory, this time playing the bard himself. The film follows the relationship between Shakespeare and his wife Anne Hathaway (Judi Dench) in the tumultuous final years of his life that saw a devastating fire destroy the Globe theatre and the death of their only son Hamnet. There is no shortage of Shakespeare veterans involved; aside from Branagh and Dench, Sir Ian McKellan co-stars as the Earl Of Southampton and Ben Elton, fresh off his own exploration of Shakespeare in the BBC’s Upstart Crow, provides the screenplay. "A tender, intelligent imagining of the playwright in retirement" - Screen International

Can You Ever Forgive Me? (15)

★ Nominated for 3 Oscars Melissa McCarthy stars as Lee Israel, the best-selling celebrity biographer (and cat lover) who made her living in the 1970s and ‘80s profiling the likes of Katherine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estee Lauder and journalist Dorothy Killgallen. When she finds herself unable to get published because she’s fallen out of step with the marketplace, she turns her art form to forgery, abetted by her loyal friend Jack (Richard E Grant). “Melissa McCarthy forges a great performance. ★★★★ 4 stars” – The Guardian

Mary Queen Of Scots (15)

Mary Queen of Scots retells the turbulent life of Mary Stuart (Saiorse Ronan). Queen of France at 16, at 18 Mary is widowed, defies pressure to remarry and returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. By birth, Mary has a rival claim to the throne of Elizabeth I (Margot Robbie), who rules as England’s Queen. Casting Mary as a capable politician and leader who wanted an alliance with her cousin Elizabeth. She fights to govern her unruly kingdom at a time when female monarchs are reviled as monstrous. Betrayal, rebellion and conspiracies within each court imperil both Queens – driving them apart as they experience the bitter cost of power. A potentially controversial adaptation of Dr John Guy’s book. "A full-blooded tale of personal and political rivalries told with wit, flair and passion" - The Guardian
