Blade Runner 2049

Blade Runner 2049
  • 2017
  • US
  • 2h 43min
  • 15
  • Directed by: Denis Villeneuve
  • Cast: Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Mackenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, Lennie James, Carla Juri, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Jared Leto

Blade Runner K (Gosling) is tasked with finding replicants who are passing themselves off as human, but then he makes an earth-shattering, game-changing discovery. Villeneuve’s long-awaited sequel to Scott’s original is beautiful, powerful and relevant; Gosling is exceptional, and Ford steals the show as the ageing but still gruff and quick-witted Deckard. A triumph.

The Emoji Movie

The Emoji Movie

  • 1h 26min
  • PG
  • Directed by: Tony Leondis
  • Cast: T. J. Miller, James Corden, Anna Faris, Maya Rudolph, Steven Wright, Jennifer Coolidge, Jake T. Austin, Christina Aguilera, Sofia Vergara, Patrick Stewart

Gene (Miller) is a ‘meh’ emoji living in Textopolis who can’t help displaying mixed emotions. Targeted for deletion, he goes on the run with perky Hi-5 (Corden) and hacker Jailbreak (Faris). A combination of product placement, ingratiating voice work and barrel-scraping studio desperation, it’s a witless and blandly generic journey of self-discovery.

After the Kingsman HQ is destroyed, street kid-turned-superspy Eggsy (Egerton) and gadget man Merlin (Strong) team up with their US equivalents to defeat drug baroness Poppy (Moore). Vaughan and Goldman turn up the preposterous comic book shenanigans at the expense of charm and basic plausibility, but fans will like it.

  • US / Denmark
  • 1h 41min

  • Directed by: Charlie Bean/Paul Fisher/Bob Logan

Lloyd (Franco) is the son of evil Lord Garmadon (Theroux), who wants to conquer Ninjago; however, Lloyd is also one of the team of ninja dedicated to combatting Garmadon and his minions. Not the most inspired of the LEGO movies but bright, brash and amusing, with intricate action, lots of slapstick fun and a delightful sequence of a cat destroying a city.
