Fifty Shades Darker

  • Directed by: Sam Taylor-Johnson
  • Cast: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan

No surprises here: Anastasia (Johnson) gets sweet-talked back into the red room by Christian (Dornan). Foley seems to be under orders to skip the actual sex, as the real money shots are of Christian’s wardrobe. Johnson manages to be likeable and human, but otherwise it’s high on production values and short on story.

  • Directed by: Chris McKay
  • Cast: Will Arnett, Zach Galifianakis, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Ralph Fiennes

Batman (Arnett) is such a self-absorbed loner that even the Joker (Galifianakis) is peeved that Bats won’t recognise him as his greatest enemy, so the villain constructs a dastardly plot that incorporates every villain he can find, including the Daleks. Packed with gags and inventiveness, it’s tremendous fun.

Oliver

Swanage Musical Theatre Company (amateur) present 'Oliver' the musical adaptation of the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens with music and lyrics by Lionel Bart. Oliver was a smash hit in the West End and arguably paved the way for the later domination of British musicals in London and Broadway, it has been revived in London an unprecedented three times. The original cast featured Ron Moody as Fagin, Georgia Brown as Nancy, and Barry Humphries in the supporting role of Mr. Sowerberry, the undertaker.
In 1968, the film version was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and won six, including Best Picture. Ron Moody was joined by Shani Wallis as Nancy, Oliver Reed as Bill Sikes, Harry Secombe as Mr Bumble, Leonard Rossiter as Mr. Sowerberry Mark Lester as Oliver and Jack Wild, who appeared at the Mowlem one summer, as the Artful Dodger. The musical starts in the workhouse where the orphan boys are eating their gruel but one brave boy asks for more. His name is Oliver and he is told to leave by the greedy caretakers, Mr Bumble and the widow Corney. Mr. Bumble actually sells Oliver to the undertakers Mr and Mrs Sowerberry. Oliver manages to escape and goes on the run and so begins his new life in the city of London. There he meets the Artful Dodger, friends and Fagin, a criminal who teaches the boys to pick pockets. Oliver is befriended by Nancy, an older member of the gang and live-in wife of Bill Sykes, a brutal house-burglar. Come and see what happens to Oliver and the interesting twist to the story! Enjoy the memorable songs of which the best known are 'Food Glorious Food', "Consider Yourself", "You've Got To Pick A Pocket or Two", "Where Is Love?" and the hit "As long As He Needs Me" Other songs include "I Shall Scream", "Boy for Sale", "That's Your Funeral", "It's a Fine Life", "I'd Do Anything", "Be Back Soon", "Who Will Buy? "Oom-Pah-Pah" and "Reviewing the Situation". Every song beautifully crafted by Lionel Bart at his peak.

"rock Of Ages"

The Swanage School is proud to present their first ever school musical this March at the Mowlem Theatre. The original show was nominated for five Tony Awards and proved popular in London's West End. Lonny Barnett, who serves as the show's narrator, sets up the story: In 1987, an aspiring rocker named Drew Boley works as a busboy in the Hollywood bar/club called the Bourbon Room, owned by Dennis Dupree. Drew falls instantly for a girl, Sherrie Christian, who just arrived from Paola, Kansas, hoping to make it big in acting and the show follows their story of trying to make it in Hollywood, but of course love is never easy!!! Performances are on the 3rd and 4th of March, Swanage are you ready to rock?
