Blackadder II

Comedy by Ben Elton & Richard Curtis

Directed by Kath Ashworth

Set in the 16th Century royal court of Queen Elizabeth, we follow Lord Blackadder as a courtier attempting to win the Queen's favour while avoiding having his head cut off.

Aided and abetted by clueless servant Baldrick and grudging friend Lord Percy, Edmund Blackadder schemes and plots his way into the Queen's good books. Over the course of the play, Blackadder gains a new servant, Bob, accidentally beheads the wrong member of aristocracy, and has a heavy-drinking boys night out. He also finds himself in debt to the Bishop of Bath & Wells until coming up with an idea so cunning you could brush your teeth with it.

With Queenie surrounded by loyal Sir Melchett and Nurse Patsy, the Elizabethan court is a world leader in sycophants, backstabbers, plots and schemes and Edmund Blackadder is determined to be the centre of them all.

MACBETH

Written by WIlliam Shakespeare

Directed by Libby Burke

The classic play written by William Shakespeare that tells the story of Macbeth, a brave Scottish soldier who receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition Macbeth proceeds to kill anyone who stands in the way of his prophecy becoming reality and is later haunted by his guilt and the spirits of his victims.

Dealing with the themes of ambition, power, good versus evil, guilt and the descent into madness makes this one of Shakespeare's more accessible plays and a powerful piece that audiences return to time after time.

Mark Thomas: An Extra Plate

Mark Thomas: An Extra Plate

Mark Thomas is just about the last person you’d associate with “ho ho ho let’s throw a log on the fire and gather round for Christmas” but… MARK LOVES CHRISTMAS! Christmas singles, films, carols, decorations, presents, food and, most of all, Christmas stories! From this most unChristmassy storyteller comes Christmas tales from his life, time and family. The one where his dad was Father Christmas for the school fete, the Christmas spent alone, the dead neighbours, the broken hearts and the unexpected guests. Mark loves it all but most of all he loves the stories of giving and sharing, celebrating and finding hope in the darkest time of year. It’s time to tell of the ghost of radical Christmas past and present. It’s part comedy, part pathos and an all-out party with more cheer than a Laplander’s eggnog hot tub! £2 from every ticket sold for this performance is being donated to The Clock Tower Sanctuary. WHAT IS GIG FOR A GIG? Gig for a Gig is our programme where we ask established artists to donate a performance to enable us to offer rising stars the chance to perform on our stage. Mark Thomas is a long-time favourite of ours (and our audiences), so we are beyond thrilled to have his support. We cannot thank him enough for being awesome and helping us to provide opportunities for a new wave of emerging artists and performers. If you can, show Mark some love by visiting his store. We’d highly recommend his book 50 Things About Us, our own Mark in the office loves it, and you will too. To find out even more about the Gig for a Gig scheme, visit our website.

Unfortunately, the school is ruled by a tempestuous and mean headmistress named Miss Trunchbull, who hates children and delivers cruel and unjust punishments to all her charges. Mike Bubbins: Throwback

Mike Bubbins, star of hit podcast The Socially Distant Sports Bar, and of BBC television comedies Mammoth, Tourist Trap and The Unexplainers, unleashes THROWBACK, his first ever solo UK stand-up tour. And things may never be the same again.

THROWBACK is a powerful, thought-provoking, visceral hour of stand-up comedy, that pushes boundaries, defies neat descriptions and challenges the audience…

AS IF IT IS!

It’s actually an hour and a half of really funny stories, pretty impressive characterisations, possibly a song (he said he’ll see how that goes), a bit of nostalgia about the good old days, a bit of optimism about the good new days, and Mike generally having a laugh about life and not taking himself, or anything else, too seriously. Having said that, he may, at some point in the show, get very annoyed at berks, whether in the past, the present, or the future. Very annoyed.

So basically THROWBACK is a comedy show about Bubbins sharing, and bringing to life, the stuff that he finds funny. As comedy concepts go, it’s a pretty straightforward one, really.

The Book of Dust - La Belle Sauvage

By Philip Pullman, adapted by Bryony Lavery. Directed by Nicholas Hytner.

Set twelve years before the epic His Dark Materials trilogy, this gripping adaptation revisits Philip Pullman's fantastical world in which waters are rising and storms are brewing.

Two young people and their dæmons, with everything at stake, find themselves at the centre of a terrifying manhunt. In their care is a tiny child called Lyra Belacqua, and in that child lies the fate of the future. And as the waters rise around them, powerful adversaries conspire for mastery of Dust: salvation to some, the source of infinite corruption to others.

Eighteen years after his ground breaking production of His Dark Materials at the National Theatre, director Nicholas Hytner returns to Pullman's parallel universe. Broadcast live from London's Bridge Theatre.

Tony Slattery Is Unrehearsable

Star of stage and screen Tony Slattery is back from the dead.

In an attempt to put off writing his memoirs he is bringing his unique take on a variety show to a wider audience.

Unrehearsable offers a special insight into Tony’s life, career and the demons that continue to dog his footsteps.

There will be interviews, comedy, Q&As, and lots of laughs, and we guarantee that no two shows will ever be the same.

Expect the unexpected from the man whom AA Gill once described as “The most dysfunctional personality of the twentieth century” – eat your heart out, Stalin!
