If I was a joke thief, I would be shinning up Paul Kerensa's drainpipe. Milton Jones A comic wave that just keeps coming … As effortless a writer as he is a performer. The Stage Paul Kerensa's writing never fails to be uniquely funny and interesting. TV comedy is richer for Paul being a part of it. Miranda Hart

Jude Simpson is a unique writer and entertainer, combining insightful observational comedy with poetry, rap and song to create a unique act which leaves audiences smiling, laughing and occasionally hungry. Her writing is lighthearted and upbeat, though with a linguistic craftsmanship which has had her compared to Victoria Wood and Joyce Grenfell. Jude appeared with Matt Harvey on his Radio 4 show Wondermentalist Cabaret, on BBC Radio 7's Stand Up Poetry, BBC Radio 4's Saturday Live, BBC Radio 2's Eddie Izzard's Late Night Cabaret and was one of just 8 poets from across the UK to appear on BBC3's slam show Slam Poets, hosted by Lemn Sissay. Jude has completed four successful runs at the Edinburgh Festival with a solo show of stand-up poetry, song and comedy. These shows have been toured around the UK at arts festivals, theatres and other venues.

In May 2006, Jude won the Swindon Festival of Literature Poetry Slam. In August 2004 Jude won the Edinburgh International Book Festival slam organised by Big Word. In October 2003, Jude won the UK Allcomers Slam at the Cheltenham Literature Festival the biggest slam poetry competition in Europe.

Winner of Barnoldswick Comedian of the Year 2016, Runner-up in Nando's New Comedian of 2015 and Finalist in Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year in July 2015; Stephen Cookson has been making a name for himself in the north of England. Now it's time the rest of the UK heard his quirky yet deadpan one liners and dry observations.

"Old whippersnapper and worryingly funny. Frankly I hope he stops doing comedy before he costs me work" Gary Delaney "Stephen Cookson has some of the finest crafted one-liners on the circuit today. He also possesses a finely tuned comic timing way beyond his experience as a newer comic" Phil Walker

Johnny's Happy Place Invites You To Acoustic Empyre Plus Support

Kettering Arts Centre presents a night of live music with the awesome local band EMPYRE plus support in aid of JOHNNY'S HAPPY PLACE!

BBC Introducing - No stage is too big for these guys"

Empyre are on the rise. Since their debut album Self Aware was released in 2019 they have won Classic Rock Magazine's Track Of The Week on three separate occasions, performed sets before rock legends Eagles, Shinedown and Alter Bridge at Arena Birmingham and been one of very few rock acts to be featured on Whispering Bob Harris Under The Apple Tree Sessions.

Sonically, Empyre perform intense, atmospheric rock, with a dark and introspective edge to their writing. In the words of BBC Introducing their music ranges from Triumphant, chest beating rock to more subtle but just as arresting numbers inviting you to do the deepest of soul searching. Theyve also been described as the love-child of Pink Floyd and Soundgarden.

Classic Rock Magazine have awarded them a 'High Hopes' feature, Kerrang! described their sound as "slick, vast and like the music was written with the help of an architectural blue print for an arena". Planet Rock heralded the band as Ones to Watch, playlisting the tracks New Republic and My Bad and on the strength of the 2020 Winter's End performance immediately booked them for the Planet RockStock 2021 main stage.

Empyre show no signs of stopping there. Despite the 2020/2021 pandemic Empyre have been relentless. Treating the pandemic as an opportunity, the band used that time to write another electric album, release new material, build on their already strong following and partner with Yamaha Music Europe and Guitar World on their singles Only Way Out (Piano Acoustic) and Drive (Acoustic) respectively. During that time they released 7 singles, 15 music videos and a studio recorded acoustic album The Other Side. Lead Singer Henrik Steenholdt comments Empyre's primary goal has always been to play the major rock festivals of Europe, were pursuing that goal voraciously, and we wont allow anything to get in our way.

2021 has also seen the band return to the studio, starting work on their second electric album, gain rave reviews at a string of summer festival dates and tour the UK with Mason Hill.

Classic Rock Magazine - The closest musical reference is Pearl Jam at their most glowering and emotionally intense

Planet Rock Everything about EMPYRE's beguiling music is colossal sounding

Kerrang! - Empyre sound slick, vast and like the music was written with the help of an architectural blue print for an arena

Guitar World Empyre have become masters at taking the formula for British atmospheric rock and infusing it with their arena-ready signature sound

Shaparak Khorsandi: IT WAS THE 90s!

Shaparak Khorsandi: It Was the 90s!

Ah, the 90s! The decade that Shaparak Khorsandi was in her twenties and ‘ladette’ culture ruled the school. The decade when there was nothing to be done but party, and Shaparak found herself flying about London with hope in her heart, a tenner in her pocket and spare knickers in her handbag. She matched the boys pint-for-pint and frequently woke up in parts of London she’d never heard of. With hindsight though, the way people behaved back then looks like the ultimate in self harm. In those days, ‘mindfulness’ was making sure you had enough money for the night bus and ‘self care’ was putting your flat shoes in a handbag. This is a show about how we 90s kids are looking to young people to learn how to take care of ourselves.
