Fiona (Thompson) is a High Court judge who finds herself becoming involved with a Jehovah’s Witness teenager (Whitehead) who refuses a blood transfusion for his leukaemia. Heavy-handed adaptation by McEwan of his own novel; not entirely convincing but Eyre brings out fine performances.
