2018 ( USA | Canada ) ( Drama )Starring: Thomasin McKenzie, Ben Foster, Jeffery RifflardDirector: Debra GranikLeave No Trace is a beautifully constructed award-winning drama from Debra Granik. Ben Foster stars as Will, a war-damaged veteran who insists on hiding away from the world in the woods of a public park with his 13-year-old daughter, Tom (Thomasin McKenzie). Though the narrative is built around conflict – one persons desire for isolation clashing with anothers craving for community – its quietly wrenching power stems not from any sense of right versus wrong, but from Graniks ability to make you understand both people. Their bond is so vividly delineated that when the police finally find them and remove them from their camp and theyre placed on different floors of a social service centre, you feel the ache and panic of that separation. The suspense in Leave No Trace is less about where the pair ends up than how they can get there without breaking each others hearts. If holding fast to people, ideas, and a way of life is an expression of love, so is letting go. (1hr 49min)
