Georg (Rogowski) is a German refugee fleeing for Marseilles, who meets and takes with him Marie (Beer), the wife of the man whose identity he’s assumed. Petzold takes the premise of Anna Seghers’ 1942 novel and strips away the WWII context, setting it in the present; the result is a fascinating and unusual drama about the limbo in which refugees live.
