Cold War (2018, Poland/UK/France, Pawel Pawlikowski, 1hr 26 mins, 15)opens in post-World War II Poland and follows the tumultuous relationship of Wiktor and Zula over a 15 year period across musical, geographical and political boundaries. The fatefully mismatched couple, based on Pawilikowskis own parents, first meet when conductor Wiktor (Tomasz Kot) is auditioning talent for a choral ensemble he is creating to showcase traditional folk music. Zula (Joanna Kulig), a fiery, enigmatic young woman sings well and quickly becomes one of the stars of the group thus beginning a stormy affair that evolves across the historical canvas of 50s and 60s Europe.
