Katy Brand in Conversation with Jane Hanna OBEI Carried a Watermelon, followed by a screening of Dirty Dancing (12A) Join us for an unforgettable Festival finale.I Carried a Watermelon is part memoir and part homage to the hit film Dirty Dancing. Comedian Katy Brand will join us in The Beacon, to explain her life-long obsession with the film and how it has influenced her own attitudes to sex, love, romance, rights and responsibilities. Her book explores the legacy of the film, from pushing womens stories to the forefront of commercial cinema, to its fresh and powerful take on the classic coming of age story told from a nave but idealistic 17-year-old girls point of view.This talk will be followed by a screening of Dirty Dancing (included in ticket price). Pop-corn and drinks will be available to buy at the bar.Janes notable career began as the first woman fellow at Keble college Oxford, where she tutored in constitutional law and human rights. She later left to become CEO for Sudep Action - a Wantage charity that Jane helped establish. She has worked for the past 20 years supporting neurology research and developing best clinical practice for families living with epilepsy in the UK and around the world. Recognised by an OBE for services to families and an international medical award, Jane today remains at Sudep Action and as a Liberal Democrat County Councillor for Wantage and Grove; with the portfolio for childrens services.
