The story of Jeremiah ‘Terminator’ LeRoy, supposed author of several novels in the late 90s and early 00s, actually written by Laura Albert (Dern) who enlisted her sister-in-law Savannah Knoop (Stewart) to play LeRoy in public. Stewart is well-cast as Knoop and Dern makes Albert sympathetic, but it’s a staid adaptation of Knoop’s own memoir and steers clear of the murkier themes of exploitation and consent.
