Booksmart (2019, USA, Olivia Wilde, 1hr 42 min, 15)is set in a California high-school where the two most studious young women, Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein) are about to graduate. The two best friends take immense pride in the fact that they work harder than any of their classmates and have achieved top grades and places at prestigious Ivy League colleges. When Mollydiscovers that their other party-going airhead school friends also have impressive jobs and college places to take up when they graduate, the pair belatedly realise that theyve lived their austere, academic lifestyles for nothing. On the last night of school the two friends resolve to make up for all those lost years and have as wild a time as possible.Over the course of a tumultuous night, the two women have all the cathartic, life-changing experiences that might be expected. The film works as a satire and a story about strong and supportive female friendships with fast, funny dialogue directed by Wildein a visually inventive manner with a brush tempo that is thoroughly entertaining.View the trailer herePlease Note: This film is in STUDIO 609 at 7.30pm - there is another film on the same night at 7.45pm in the Performance Hall.
