Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (upcoming Brit Whishaw) is led to the gallows in 1776 after perpetrating a series of murders trying to recreate the smell of his first (accidental) kill. Twyker does his best to replicate the olfactory scintillation of Patrick Suskind's source novel Perfume through voiceover and visual tricks but is only partially successful. However, Whishaw's excellent murderous ambivalence and a killer ending manage to pull things back.
