Diego Maradona(2019, UK, Asif Kapadia, 2hrs 7 mins, 12A)is a documentary about the supremely talented Argentinian footballer. The films title is deliberate in order to emphasise the two personalities of the famous player:Diego, the Argentine slumdog turned footballing megastar, and Maradona, the epic hero brought low by foolishness and excessive self-confidence. The infamous hand of god moment is included in this gripping account of Maradonas playing career until the mid-90s using cleverly chosen existing TV footage with voiceover commentaries from various observers to add context. Similar to Asif Kapadias previous documentaries, the Oscar-winning Amy and Bafta-winning Senna, the film unfolds in dramatic manner examining a challenging character and compels you to care whether you like football or not.View the trailer herePlease Note: This film is in STUDIO 609 at 7.30pm - there is another film on the same night at 7.45pm in the Performance Hall.
