The Bishop's Wife
The Bishops Wife (1947, Henry Koster, USA, 1 hr 45 mins, U)is a fantasy comedy set in New York where newly appointed Bishop, Henry Brougham (David Niven) is having difficulty raising funds for the construction of a new cathedral. Stressed and pre-occupied with his new duties, Henry hasnt had much time for this wife, Julia (Loretta Young) who misses their old neighbourhood. Enter Dudley (Cary Grant), an angel in human form sent to help Henry as his assistant and who will be present until he is no longer needed. Dudley provides guidance to the young Bishop bringing Henrys attention to the importance of family and why he became a churchman in the first place. Set at Christmas this is a warm and winning fable that will enchant and entertain.
